Roger was raised in Africa and, after graduating from the University of York, England, studied biology at the University of Oregon. Eschewing a hard core research career, Roger adventured around various corners of South America, including the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. Combining his love of writing and travel resulted in the leading travel guide to the Amazon, The Amazon: The Bradt Travel Guide, now in its third edition. Roger has also contributed several articles and book reviews to American Scientist, Sigma Xi’s magazine.
