Obama gives Twitter a boost

It may come as no surprise—the Internet is buzzing with talk of Twitter. Twitter activity is at an all time high.

Google Trends, which displays search activity over time across the web, shows that search for “Twitter” content is peaking. (Blue line in Figure 1.)

Likewise, Alexa.com shows a steady increase in Twitter traffic. (Figure 2)

Indeed, the latest increase in Twitter activity from January 2008 seems to begin with the recent spike in interest in Obama. (Compare Figure 3 with green arrow in Figure 1.)

The prospective nominee hooked into the Twittersphere to help his campaign. By way of payback, it looks like Obama’s involvement has helped popularize Twitter.
